This spring, Horizons is celebrating growth—in our programs, partnerships, and the families we serve. From launching a financial literacy pilot with EDEN, to helping families build English language skills, we're focused on long-term stability. Our collaboration with Berklee’s Center for Music Therapy is bringing mindfulness into classrooms, while a partnership with Second Chance Cars is helping parents like Shelene get behind the wheel and on the road to independence.
Read on to explore the inspiring stories and impactful work happening across our community.
Empowering Families Through Financial Literacy: A New Pilot Program from Horizons for Homeless Children and EDEN
For nearly two decades, Liberty Mutual has been a true champion of Horizons for Homeless Children, investing in our mission and the families we serve. Their longstanding support is visible in the Liberty Room, a vibrant, multi-use space at our Early Education Center. Whether its parents gathering for a community breakfast, children engaging with musicians from a local symphony, or staff participating in professional development, the Liberty Room is a daily reminder of the power of corporate partnership in action.
During their recent Serve with Liberty Week, Liberty Mutual employees rolled up their sleeves to revitalize two of our Central Massachusetts Playspaces. These trauma-informed play areas, located inside shelters, offer children a safe, joyful place to play and heal. Because of their distance from Boston, these particular Playspaces don’t often receive the same level of volunteer attention, as many corporate partners are unable to travel that far. But Liberty Mutual showed up, cleaning toys, vacuuming rugs, restocking supplies, and filling the rooms with smiles and energy.
Thank you, Liberty Mutual, for going the extra mile, literally and figuratively(!), to support Horizons. Your partnership makes a lasting difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
Earlier this year, our students planted tulip bulbs in the community garden, learning that growth takes time, care, and a strong foundation. Once those tulips were in full bloom, the kids carefully dug them up, potted them, and got them ready to give as gifts to their parents.
What started as a simple gardening activity turned into a hands-on lesson in patience, responsibility, and sharing something beautiful with others. And just like these flowers, the early experiences and support our kids receive now will help them blossom into confident, capable learners in the years to come!
